Dino's Reptiles

1 November

Today we went to Crystal Palace park, these are the gates at the top of the hill. Someone has cleverly remade the head of one of the headless statues, we were delighted!

Lots of autumn colours everywhere, to match the "Rusty Laptop" the old stage roof and building behind that looks like a giant open laptop. Lots of rain has made this new "lake", a very large puddle indeed.

We sat here on this little hill overlooking the dinosaur statues, to have our snack. The pigeons soon found us and there was one bold pigeon chasing the others away a bit too much.

We went to Battersea Park which is on the river Thames.

We found the little English garden, with pergolas and pond. This sundial was interesting, but no sun today to try it out.

Two moorhens have made their home on this long pond.

River Thames looking bluer than usual.

This is the Albert Bridge, very smart being all white.

Everywhere you go is "Thames Path"! This is the old Battersea Power Station being converted to dwellings, and surrounded by new apartment blocks.

These pigeons in Purley are having a real scrum, as someone had left a pile of grain at the foot the tree. The pigeons were standing on each other's backs.

6 November

We went to the Motor Show in Regent Street in Central London.

All the cars have lots of interesting brass pipe work, nothing is hidden like in modern cars.

A very fancy umbrella basket and picnic basket.

Bulb and long pipework leading to the horn.

We then went into Hamleys, the famous toy store, it was very busy.

A Christmas sleigh just waiting for people to take selfies with the children.

This is the statue of Eros at Piccadilly Circus, and same in tiles at Piccadilly Circus Station.

We have a wonderful nativity scene in one of the high streets that we visit nearby.

Today we went to Enfield in North London and then by bus to Broomfield Park near Arnos Grove. It has several lakes at different levels.

Loads of pigeons and gulls everywhere.

12 November

I was very surprised to see this Nerine flower in my garden, we had them very many years ago but this one has reappeared. What a surprise!

These rose hips are as big as small apples.

13 November

This is the Lord Mayor's Show in Central London, lots of marching bands throughout the whole procession. It all takes about an hour to pass.

Here are the wicker men Gog and Magog. This vehicle was entirely pedal powered, everyone's legs were going like mad!

We liked these health workers and police officer, with big heads and tiny legs. These dancers dressed as lilies were fantastic.

I am not sure how they got this ship inside the balloon! The gold bars were interesting, but I am sure they are cardboard ones, the real thing is not going walkies around London!

The new Lord Mayor of London is the last one in the procession, preceded by lots of guards on horses.

We went to the riverside for a while to have our snack. This enclosure catches rubbish as it flows downriver, to help clean up the Thames.

These are two of some of the artworks lining a tunnel walkway towards the Tower of London - Tower Ravens and the Crown Jewels. There are many more, of kings and queens.

Here is the Tower of London, and they have a replica ballista in the grounds.

This is a preserved piece of Roman town wall, down in Tower Hill tube station, high up in the wall opposite the platform.

Just checking my birds have plenty of berries to eat during winter when they visit my garden.

My park is full of autumn colour and leaves to kick. I like this climbing nasturtium growing through a bush, I will have to try that next year.

We went to Waterloo Station. This goods train passed us and you can always hear the weight of them by the heavy rumbling noise they make. We travelled to Kingston-upon-Thames to the west of London.

This enclosure near the Guildhall in Kingston protects a very old Coronation Stone used by seven kings of England in the years 900 to 976.

The kings were Edward The Elder, Athelstan, Edmund, Edred, Edwy, Edward The Martyr and Ethelred The Unready.

These are the three fishes of the Kingston emblem. They are looking very smart here.

This is the Bentall's shopping centre, all glittering with lights. This Chrismas shop has solved the problem of trees taking up too much shop floor space - it is upsidedown and all the decorations are hanging from it.

This is the best window in the centre.

We got a bus to Hampton and had our sandwiches sitting by the river - on that other sunny side. It was rather chilly in the shade. Hampton Court Palace is behind the trees.

We visited friends today, a long train journey northwards. This is Blackfriars Station at dawn. The station is built on the bridge over the river.
