4 November
Today we went to Greenwich Park, to see the autumn trees in the sun.
We watched the time ball on the Royal Observatory tower come down at 1 pm.
Then we climbed One Tree Hill.
The view from One Tree Hill is towards the River Thames and Canary Wharf beyond. To the left of this photo would be views of central London.
We took the train to Blackfriars Station. We saw this bubble man with ropes between two long sticks.
Lot of jumping up to touch the bubbles.
The swans gather at the places where there are cafes and people eating. In the distance is St Paul's Cathedral.
5 November
Not a lot going on this firework night, these are from a couple of gardens down.
12 November
Today is the Lord Mayor's Show. We went over the Millennium Bridge towards St Paul's Cathedral.
We watched the traditional Morris dancers for a while.
I think these camels were at the beginning to save them having to wait around and get grumpy!
These are basket-weave figures of Gog and Magog who were supposedly protecting the city.
Epping Forest reminding us that our woodlands are the green lungs of the city.
Glass sellers company. These dolphins were rotating in circles via a shaft that the wearer had on.
The dragon is being lured on to follow the colourful pearl.
These are the heralds, to signal that the Mayor's coach is not far behind.
This year's new Lord Mayor of London.
Right at the end, these British cyclists gave us a very cheery song in conclusion.
It was interesting watching the cleansing trucks come past in a long convoy, staggered across the width of the road. At the rear, every bit of litter, sand and horse droppings was entirely gone and the streets gleaming clean.
17 November
We went up to Somerset House at the end of the afternoon and watched the skaters.
The old spiral stone staircase inside Somerset House.
After that, we went to the Tower of London to see the light show illuminating the west wall.
Here are some long-necked dinosaurs roaming along.
Giant whales swimming over the walls!
18 November
We went to Canary Wharf to see the ice sculptures. The man was making an ice bear. This eagle is my favourite.
The sculptures became very smooth and clear as they slowly melted.
20 November
Dinosaur bath day today, and they were all very well behaved.
November
We went to see the new complex at Battersea Power Station which has been converted to residential and retail use.
The skating rink is quite long so people can get up some speed.
Inside there are lots of shops and eateries on two levels.
This relic is a switchgear, over 20 feet tall.
The exhibition area showed pictures of the development. This is how the power station looked when it was derelict, before the development began some years ago. Now it is surrounded by blocks of apartments and new streets.
The walls of the old building have been kept as they are, and not tidied up too much.
Lots of space for crowds of shoppers, but rather empty when we were there, as it has only been open a short time. This photo shows the glass elevator reaching the top of one of the rebuilt chimneys.
One of the shopping malls.
From the upper walkway, I was able to zoom in the camera to a top window and get a picture of the old control room dials.
It looks much bigger when you are standing at the bottom, feeling very tiny!
We purposely went late in the day, to make sure we saw everything illuminated.
The barriers along this road have a very electrical flavour!
23 November
Singing snowman at Uxbridge Christmas Market. You press a button to get the action, and there is a different song each time.
25 November
The very welcoming waiting room at Welling Station.
Passing through Catford, we saw these pigeons attacking two loaves of bread wrapped in plastic. They had made some holes and were managing to peck the slices through them. I wonder if they finished it all off eventually?
26 November
After dark we went to a local Christmas Festival with stalls and fairground rides.
The noisiest was the Crazy House. Instead of the usual fireworks, there were several explosions of paper confetti.
29 November
We went to the garden centre to see friends and get some farm shop apples, which are in different varieties from those in the supermarkets. We could have done with Santa's helicopter for a quick ride home!
