3 September

Today we went to a fete on Peckham Rye Common.

Punch and Judy were waiting for their time slot and lots of kids were enjoying seeing the fire engine.

We had our sandwiches in the garden part.

This little length is all that remains of the River Peck before it goes underground and joins the Thames eventually. It was just a trickle.

8 September

A sad day, our lovely Queen has passed away. My best memory of her is the wonderful Christmas broadcasts, with a beautiful smile at the end of each one!

10 September

Today King Charles III was proclaimed as King at the Accession Council in St James's Palace, and lots of documents were read out and signed.

Afterwards the Proclamation was read out on the balcony of St James's Palace, and the same happened all round the country.

Then the guards removed their helmets, and everyone joined in three cheers for the King, lifting their helmets up high each time.

Then we had the gun salutes in Hyde Park and at the Tower of London, and in other places throughout the UK.

11 September

A damp dewy morning and the spiders have been very busy.

We went to Croxley Green to see Carter's Steam Fair.

We were delighted to see some new items, these penny in the slot machines. I liked the Try Your Strength one, but it was too hard for a little Teddy to pull!

Dodgems and Octopus.

Looks like the sunny corner of my garden pond!

Chairoplanes and Gallopers.

The Gallopers has pictures of all the Kings and Queens of England hanging high above the horses.

Everywhere there are pictures of our dear Queen. This is the escalator down to the underground railway.

14 September

The Queen's coffin is taken to rest in Westminster Hall.

Along The Mall, and into the Hall.

Inside Westminster Hall.

15 September

We went to the Prince Philip Maritime Museum in Blackheath, which is not far from Greenwich. This is a modern model of the building of Brunel's Great Eastern ship.

You can just see a little group of Brunel and his engineers consulting the plans.

We had a guided tour into the storage areas.

Everything has a label with its number and weight, for safety when they are moved. Lastly our guide showed us the picture storage gallery and a short video. It was all very interesting.

15 September

This bed in Well Hall in Eltham, South East London, was planted for the Queen's Jubilee in June.

17 September

Another visit to Carter's Steam Fair at Croxley Green. We made this second trip, as today is our last chance to see the fair before it changes ownership and finds a static home for future visitors.

The Whip is the noisiest ride in the fair.

The sail boats go up and down gently for the small children. Lots of little sea creatures painted in the water all round the edge.

Old favourite, the Gallopers. Last week we had a Queen, now this week we have a new King, Charles The Third.

Long shadows means it's time to go home.

19 September

The Queen's funeral is today. There were thousands of guests in Westminster Abbey.

All the soldiers and members of the armed forces will never forget taking part.

22 September

After a lot of juggling, we finally pieced together the new arch which is by the fishpond. We need it there to take the power cable and several air tubes over the path to where the plugs and air pumps are. The old arch was collapsing into rust.

25 September

The garden is full of apples now, which is a bit surprising with all the drought we had for the last part of the summer.

29 September

Today we went to Crystal Palace Park. I hope this tree fell at night!

We had our sandwiches on top of a hill, and had a little box of bird pellets for the pigeons. The fastest ones get the most! The pellets tended to roll down the slope, making it easier for them all to get a bit each.

30 September

The squirrels and the pesky Ring Necked Parakeets were taking an interest in the fruit trees, so we had to pick them all. Lots of washing and sorting to do, and we gave mixed bags to our friends and neighbours.

It's always worth having a second look for any last pears, but I think we got them all. The rope is for the tree further along, which starts to lean over with the weight of apples.
